Route del Norte, a DORBA 6 hour mountain bike race. Held at Erwin Park, trails were in awesome shape. I listed the SS class in the results, as there were no age groups for that class. I find it interesting that the SS winner would have won the open division for any age group and placed well in the elite race. The 2 and 3 finisher in SS would have also placed highly in the open groups. I take this to suggest that the SS classification is more competitive and rationalize (one of my stronger skills) that my 10th place finish was a big success for this first time racer.
Funny thing is that I expected to finish 5 loops within the 6 hour time limit. I didn't know they would let you finish any loop you start before the 6th hour. Basically, I did 6 loops in about 5:45, then went on to complete the 7th loop for my total... farthest I have done mountain biking!
I'm still confused as to how, as a comlete newbie, I manage to clear all the technical obstacles, log piles, drops, dips, ramps, roots, twisty-turny's, but manage to fall four different times in the open field...guess that's where the newbie kicks in...
