DORBA Frozen 6 Hour Series - Johnson Branch

Did 6 Hour race at Johnson Branch, "official" results have me at 5 loops, . I was oldest dude there! Went with flow for first loop (completed 5 loops), then pushed a bit harder in second... experienced a problem with my chain/deraileur and lost some time in loop 2, then worked with bike mechanic from SNS Sports to get hanger straightened which counted against loop 3 in the official results. Overall, I feel like I lost 30 min with the problem. Went out easy on Loop three and felt pretty good getting through it and just held on for loops 4 and 5. I could easily have done one more loop with a little concentration and no bike issues and perhaps could see getting 7 if in better shape.

Overall, I was pleased with my ability to get through the technical stuff. This has been improving and paid off. I was still making the technical climbs in loop 5, but caught myself slowing down a lot in the non-tech twisty-turny stuff... well, cause I got tired of clipping trees with my shoulders. I hit one tree two, maybe three times! THE SAME TREE! One of those hits I was moving pretty good and in a flash, found myself on the ground, stopped dead in my tracks with the bike continuing around the turn but with me laying in the trail under the tree... shoulder still hurts and will for a couple more days...

Great job for first MTB race! Sorry to hear about the mechanical but at least you were able to get it repaired and it didn't end your day. I may have to join you for the next race at Boulder...or at least out at Erwin. I'll probably just do the 4 hour though.
