Notes

Had no plans and really didn't know about this until a few weeks ago. In a moment of weakness Chris suggested that I go ahead and pay the ridiculous entry fee for a 5K that she was already signed up for. Somewhere in Halethorpe. Halethorpe? Really? Just warehouse buildings, train tracks and trash. Some beat up industrial park but they had craft brews from Heavy Seas brewery after the race. Sold, American!

Bill A snagged the bib once owned by Chris' Gregg who decided to fly to CA in order to avoid running. This allowed Chris to hitch up the running shoes and as she said, "Go balls to the wall." To me, it sounded like a lot of pain as most 5Ks are.

I decided I would be conservative and run 8:25s since we have Bachman Half tomorrow. Chris gave me that stink eye when she doesn't believe me which I don't understand. Did a 2 mile warm up and the temps moved about 6 degrees in just a short time.

The race was around, through, up, over, up, over and down this industrial park where the brewery is. Very non scenic. Reasonable course but now it is really hot. Starter says we will go 1, 2, 3 and you will start running. He does 1, 2, 3, and Go! which confused a few people.

About 1/4 mile down the road I looked at my pace and it was 7:12 and I wasn't dead so decided to throw out the 8:25s and welcome the pain. Held okay the 1st mile and Chris is nowhere to be seen. She was 3rd Female Overall at that time and running hard. Tough second mile. Now it is hotter and no shade. Held it together, got the breathing under control and started to smell the hay in the barn. No close but didn't get too much slower from Mile 1 to Mile 3.

Came in 3rd AG 50- 59, Chris 2nd AG 50-59, Bill A would have placed 60 to 69 if he had his own bib . Good enough race to do again.

Gosh, I just don't know why I don't believe you. It must be those lips that are moving. Nice AG!

You hurt my feelings.
