Notes

Great day today for Helen. Paced her to a 5K PR by 26 seconds. Had rare (for middle of winter), sunny, warm weather (except bad headwind for the 2nd half of the race) which was nice. Took off right at 5:30 pace and tried to get Helen to hold that. She did a great job but got a little tired toward the end which is to be expected. Going into this race I must admit I had some doubts whether or not I'd be able to pace her at the required pace ONLY because I am just coming off a 2 week break and this was my first full week back into regular running. As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about as I felt great the entire time and pacing wasn't a problem. After finishing the race, Helen and I lounged around for about 10 minutes then went back out to Naito & Front Ave. and did a 4 mile 'tempo' at near her threshold pace. Again I felt great and it was super easy. Helen also looked good. Cool down back to the staging area for the awards ceremony. 1st place went to a 21 year old woman names Bianca Martin who goes to school at PSU. She ran 17:02, only 10 seconds faster than Helen and Helen is a decade older than her!!! I was second place in 17:10, Helen was third overall in 17:12.
