Awesome run this morning with the Red Lizard group in Portland. Wasn't sure how I'd feel due to yesterday's trek up the mountain, but I guess I felt decent. Met Kelly Jaske for the first time which was neat. She took 2nd at last year's Houston Half-Marathon (1:12:03) and was featured on flotrack.org. She is also coached by the famous Brad Hudson. Best part of the run was when Kelly and I took off and did a 2.75 mile tempo on springwater. We were neck and neck the entire time with me making some moves and gradually edging ahead every once in a while. I must say, It was pretty neat doing a tempo with a female elite athlete just the two of us!!! As a result, Mile 5 was a 5:49, Mile 6 was 5:35, and Mile 7 was 5:33. We finished at the end of springwater by the church and waited for the rest of the gang to catch up. Shortly after, we stopped and got water and I took an e-Gel. From there, we followed the SE Portland loop and came back across the Sellwood bridge and down waterfront right's bike path. Weather was bitterly cold today and we came across some ice on the roads at times which was sketchy. This was definately a challenging run for me but I feel my fitness is coming back strong. First long run on the pavement in a long time. Great run!
