Wow, figured quite a few things out but I am still on the fence about the roads versus trails debate. Still too much ice everywhere to make me feel comfortable. the Potomac was frozen and lovely: white and fluffy. The canal was frozen but not nearly enough for safe skating (hehehe). A nice man stopped to offer me directions and I think I saw the same middle-age white guy three times. But that would be impossible.
