Great race for me at the 100th Williams Alumni race. Knew I was going to have stiff competition from Macklin Chaffee, a sub-4:00 miler, so I decided to take it out pretty quickly. Went through the mile in the lead, pushing the pace but still feeling relaxed. Macklin was just a stride in back of me most of the time, but I could tell he was hurting on the hills a little more than I was so I pushed it pretty hard going up. With about 800m left I started really pulling away, but didn't let up because I knew Macklin was always one big kick away from taking the lead.
Ended up running 15:37 on a hilly, twisty course in slightly wet conditions. Best race I have ever run on our home course and I think I even set the 5k course record by about 18 seconds. Also, it's great confidence knowing I did this mostly off of easy runs and tempo.
