4 x mile interval workout at Silver View Park today. I missed my hard day on Tuesday due to the thunderstorm so I pushed it to today. Super nice outside - 63 and partly cloudy. Not super humid either. I bought ANOTHER pair of shoes for race day so I used them today to break them in a little and try them out. They're Saucony's carbon-plated road racing flats. And holy shit. The carbon plate is like a fucking springboard. Just putting these shoes on and walking around you can't help but have a little bounce in your step. They feel illegal. TAKE ME IN OFFICERS I'M GUILTY. I decided to do the workout at Silver View Park which is this asphalt trail around a little lake - a little bit bigger than Lake Ellyn. It's 3 miles away so I did the first interval in the 3rd mile after 2 warm-up miles to get to the park then the full 3 miles back were a cool down. This park honestly worked out perfectly for this workout because the loop turned out to be exactly 1.25 miles so I did the mile intervals and .25 jogging rest in the same spot each lap. I felt pretty good on the first 3. I stopped a little after 3 cuz I was starting to cramp up a little in my back. 4 was pretty dang hard not gonna lie. I originally was thinking I would do 4-5 intervals but I would've needed more rest to do 5. I still think it was a solid workout with 4. I got used to the springiness in my shoes pretty quickly, so I think they're just going to make my trainers feel pretty flat. I'm hoping I can do a sub 17 min 5k at the race in sept. This workout made it feel like that is possible.
