Notes

This was an ok race for the team, but I wasn't as happy personally. The course was just a huge field, and the wind began to blow during our race. I felt good after the first mile, and my nose was running by then. The end of the first lap had tons of people surrounding it. I kept hearing "GO JT," as I do in every race. He runs for Kings and every year at tons of races I hear Kings people yelling GO JT. I even remember in 8th grade track hearing about JT. Well I beat him and I was happy about that. I started getting a cramp around the second mile/end of the first lap. As usual, Coach's yelling got me going faster. By 2.5, I could see Cullen and Pat not very far ahead, and there was Coach, so I sped up. I couldn't tell where the finish was ahead, which was around a curve; I could just see a long line of people. When the sides of the course became solid with people, I was close enough to Cullen and started to sprint. I passed him at first, which was hard to do because the chute created by all the people was only 2 or 3 people wide and there were other runners in the way. Cullen didn't give up, though, which I guess I had somewhat planned for because I slackened my sprint after I passed him the first time, and he passed my again just before the finish line. We even registered the same time, but he beat me by an undeterminable fraction. The team finished third after St. X and Milford. I was upset after the race because I thought I had run a 6:20 last mile, but I realized later today that it was a 6:20 1.1 mile, so around 5:50 for the last. This was more even than my other races, but I wish I had given more, since this was probably the biggest race I've ever run in. There will be next week, though, at regionals in Troy. I guess there will be teams from Dayton and maybe Columbus and such, so a lot of people.

I squatted down on the balls of my feet before the race to get a Chewy bar, but I couldn't decide so it took 30s-1 minute. My right knee hurt after that when I stretched my quad. My legs felt pretty good during the race, just tired. Maybe this week I can slacken my pace on the workouts even more...
