*Includes 4 minutes walked: 2 on Asher Ave, and 2 at the top of the Granite Street hill

A great run out with M, although after yesterday's big Brooklyn College trip with Laina, we're both dragging just a bit (she more than me, and alas, I see little of M after the first half of the course...) I feel incredibly strong & with muscles tight, in a good way, on most of the downhills, and esp on the entire Pequot Trail/Broad Street stretch coming down to Evans Mobil, and with SO many people, runners, and human cyclists out, the outing is a really positive one...!

And today is the Adventure with the Dog, and my brush with almost comic-book heroism, too - Remember this, as it may well prove a mythic event in our history later on:

Beginning the push up the Granite Street hill, and with two women joggers a few dozen feet behind me, I'm totally strong engaging the hill. On nearing Spruce Street (with Atty Lallo's office on the corner), tho, I hear a jingling to my side and look across to see a small Boxer-type dog, with leash dangling along the sidewalk, running out to the fire hydrant on the street corner. Its owner, an almost-achetypal white-haired elderly woman with a cane shuffling up behind calling it away from traffic, looks frantic, and the dog seems oblivious to the traffic around it. The decision/awareness hits me instantly, and I stop, turn off GAR, and wait the few seconds until I can cross the street, remaining hyper-aware of the dog's movements. The moment I can, I quickly & quietly pad across the street (while he's still thankfully finishing up a good pee on the hydrant) to grab his leash just as he's moving to head out into the street himself! The woman is SO thankful, and says he sometimes gets away from her, to which I reply something about an attractive fire hydrant(!), but, fully witnessed by a pickup at the stop sign next to us, the two women (now walking), and whoever else happens to be driving by. As I restart GAR and continue on up the hill, I feel the energy flowing through me, and the strength, and wonder if this is the rush that keeps Superman doing what he does!

The thought racing in my mind for the remainder of the run: "The Universe WANTS us to be awesome; we just have to pay attention for the opportunities..."
