I'll start out by saying that was a brutal marathon. The first 13 miles went pretty smoothly. The next 4 were the toughest. My stomach was bothering me and my hip tightened up a bunch (those GU's don't settle well with my stomach). By about mile 16 the 4:15:00 pacer passed me and I'm thinking no way. So I started to run with her for a while and by mile 18 I decided I was going to finish the race with her no matter what. She was extremely motivating and a great person to talk with as we ran. At mile 20 she gave me the pacing stick to carry, that was awesome. As soon as I started to carry it I knew I couldn't quit, it was great accountability. By about mile 25 I handed the stick back to her and was mentally and physically just about done. I could hardly finish the last mile. But she wouldn't let me stop, she kept me going. At mile 26 she was like Go Bob Go! So I kicked as much as I could and finished with an unofficial time of 4:14:15. I know it's not the fastest time but for once I finished the last 6 miles without stoping. And I felt under control the whole marathon. I may not be the fastest marathon runner by any means but I enjoy myself out there a lot and will keep doing them regardless of my times. I still have a long ways to grow as a runner and I will continue to do so. One more marathon to go in a couple weeks to qualify myself for Marathon Maniacs, and it will all be well worth it. I refuse to quit and I refuse to give up no matter how much pain and how tough it gets. Shout out to Emily my awesome Pacer!
