On Olympic Marathon Day, I decided to go long-ish for a change. It's been like forever since I ran this route, and being woken up early by a freak sounding of our smokes, I figure, "What the heck? I got time!" I check the Men's stats and saw they were only about halfway. I asked myself "Self? You think we could do about a quarter of they're doing in about half the time?" I set my watch for 30-out/30-back and went out. It was calm & uneventful; hit the 2-mile at 17. Saw some girls on horseback about a half mile ahead and tried to catch up to them, but even a pokey horse on a stroll is faster than a trotting old dude. Made a few sprinkle passes in the Sanctuary before my watch beeped to head home; I was almost the the turn-around so I finished that road, and made my U-turn; resoaking myself for the way back. Saw a nice woman out for "just a walk" returning to the Sanctuary as I exited. This was the first Dawn Patrol where I'd actually spotted OTHER runners in Atco - a pair running on Atco Ave. crossing the tracks Eastward as I was on Atlantic. This energized me for the last mile, and helped me hurry up to get home in time to do a little cool-down walk and catch the last mile of the Marathon
