Crazy race. It was my first time doing Pearl Street and the course has some early tight turns. I was in the elite race and we were all supposed to be sub 4:40 guys. I was figuring I would run 4:35 ish or faster today. I got boxed in early and took until we got to Pearl street for there to be enough room. I kept an eye on Art Seimers hoping to key off him. I kept passing people and moved into maybe 18th place or so. We turned and took a grind back up the hill to the last turn. The final turn I started my spring but so did Art. We went around a pack of 5 but I couldn't catch him. I never reeled him all the way in but got beat by .3 of a second. I was amazed when I saw the clock how slow the times were. The times were slow across the board almost to the point I swear they started the clock like 10 seconds early. I got 13th so I place well but the time was way off. Maybe because it was 94 degrees out or something. All the same people race it every year and 13th any other year would be sub 4:30 and it was 4:44 this year. I was happy to beat the same guys I beat at Superior the week before. I will chalk it up to a good race with a bad time. Oh well it was a fun race with the crowds and the atmosphere. I will be back next year.
