Notes
Snowy and cold at the start. I thought I might have underdressed but I warmed up quickly. On the warm up my legs felt good and I thought I would have a good day. I took off and quickly settled into a nice pace in the 6:35 range. It felt like walking but I knew it would be a long day. At mile 4 I felt my gut. I knew I would have to stop. I jumped off the course down a little snow to the port o potty during mile 6. By they time I got out the lead girl was going by. I tried to get back into my pace and not worry about making up all the time. I wasted 2 minutes in that bathroom. I was back at pace and then again before the halfway point it hit me again. I went into the bathroom for another 2 minutes. I burned 4 minutes in the first 13 miles in a port o potty. I still felt good with my legs and lungs but was a little pissed about wasting time. I settled back into pace for a third time. Passing some runners 3 times. I felt good at Ted's place and rolled up over the hill and into verns. I took my first gu packet at mile 13 then a half a packet a mile 20 at verns then another half a packet at mile 23. Coming in the last 10K I knew if I didn't have to stop I had a sub 3 easy. Mile 26 felt short and the last quarter felt long but other than that, the pace was on. Almost every mile was in a 10 second window between 6:28-6:38. Mile 21 was long because they took us off the trail then came back to it. I assume thats why it was a 6:47 and my two bathroom stops miles. Weird day but I enjoy running in the cold versus the heat.
