Warmed up about 2.5 miles. Felt a bit flat. Was still warm at 7pm like 80 degrees and windy. Went out with leaders. Pace felt a bit soft so before the mile took the lead and put a gap on the field. about 400m before 2 mile, got reeled in by a young guy who went by me smoothly. Was laboring really hard and trying to hold onto 2nd. Pack was a bit back but didn't want to blow it the last mile. With the heat, wind and being in no man's land, rode out the last mile. Time was 16.37 which is so, so. 5.04, 5.15, 5.40. Was pleased with how I competed. Saw an opportunity to go for the win so tried early. Just did not have the strength to keep it together for the W the last mile. Got a good 30 min warm-down where the last 15 min were at a good pace.
