Great run today. Got into the 800 with Connor Lanning of Sammamish (previously a 2:05 guy who pulled off a huge race to make the KingCo 800m final last year as a longshot. Also a 53.4 open 400 guy so pretty fast) and some big tall guy from South Whidbey who earlier had won the 1600 that I painfully had to watch. He took off in the lead and I tucked in behind him in lane 1. Lanning stayed to my outside for the first lap and I got boxed in sorta. We hit the bell and Lanning blasted by him and pushed ahead through the turn. I waited til after the curve to make my move and I went by the Whidbey kid on the back straight. Lanning still had about 8-10 meters on me down to the final turn. I just couldn't close but down the home stretch I decided I'd give it a run and without thinking I mowed him down in the last hundred, just about died 10 meters out when I pulled even, but hung on for dear life and ran the last bit I had left into the line. I am convinced I outleaned him and everyone I trust who saw the finish says I did, but the officials gave us a dead heat because some of the volunteer timers were real clowns. How is it possible to "not see" the finish when your job is to watch the line to see who's torso crosses first? Anyway happy with the PR and it was a great race for me so I have no complaints. /vent
