Notes

Rockwall Hot Rocks Bike Race. Not as hot as I feared, but I had two flats. First flat - tried to fix myself by securing rim tape with electrical tape from handlebars. Flat again a mile or two later. Richardson Bike Mart van gave me new tape and got me going again, but I had a vibration in the rear tire. Plano Cycling looked at it at the 25-mile Rest Stop, determined the bead hadn't set, and inflated it more to try to get it to set. After pushing on it, he went to the front tire to add air, and that's when the rear tire blew. He gave me two new tires, because he said a lot of the problem was the tires. With two new tires, I was able to finish the ride.

Came across a gentleman from Minden, LA, at about 33 miles - he was resting in some shade, having run out of water. Gave him what was in my bottle and rode with him for awhile to make sure he'd be okay. He was 72 years old, former runner (ran Boston several times in 80's and 90's), developed an achilles problem, went to throwing events in Senior Olympics, then cycling. Had to let him go ahead while I dealt with some texts, and when I caught back up, he was with some volunteers, who ultimately ended up driving him in.

Allison Utley and Jim Hatt were there. And Aundra finished the ride with no problems! Good race, good support.
