Notes

What a huge disappointment. Eleni and I were were looking forward to finally running a proper race together for the first time since the New Year's 5K in Lowell Jan 1st 2011.

I felt very good. I was worried a bit about the left Achilles going in the race, but I had no problem with it at all. However at about 2.75 mile point, I felt a few twinges in the left hamstring and slowed down just a bit as a precaution. I told myself not to panic and to relax as this will pass. At mile 3, I picked up the pace to back where I was (about 6:25) before the twinges, and that is when the hammy seized up and I had to drop out at 3.04.

At 3 miles I was 12 seconds faster than last year and this was with the quarter mile slow down.

This hamstring problem came out of blue. When I injured it at the Holywood race, I had warning signs during training. This time the hammy felt great the past month. I need to run a good 5 or 10K, to get over this hamstring issue. I don't want to be going into races with the thought in my head... "will the hamstring hold up, or will I be forced out of the race?"

I do have less pain now than after the Holywood race where I missed 5 weeks of running. I suspect I will be back training much sooner.

The great news is Eleni had an awesome race and snagged 3rd place in 55-59 division.
