Notes
Frustrated and disappointed is all I can say. Warming up I could tell I was ready tor a great race. I felt light and fast. After the warmup I did 5 20-30 second strides and had no problems with hamstrings, The past week I did have tightness in the hammy's (especially the left one) early in the runs, but after warming up I have been fine. Today was the same. Tight early, but ok after a mile or so.
After about a quarter mile into the race, Sandy passed me, but I tucked in right behind him. I glanced at my watch just after a half mile and we were running 6:15 pace and I felt strong. I knew my sub 6:30 pace for a goal was going to achieved unless something drastic happened.
And something drastic did happen. Right at .75 mile I felt the left hamstring start to cramp and seize up. My instant thought was I might have to drop out. I tried to relax hoping it would release and I knew if it didn't get worse, I might be able to finish the race.
However just before the mile, it totally gave out on me and I had to drop out on the spot. The mile walk back and then another mile to the car was slow (couldn't run at all) and cold.
Positives from today? I feel like if I didn't get hurt, I had a sub 32:00 in me which would have been at least 30 seconds faster than I expected. So if I can come back from this fairly quickly, I am on track for a better year than last year.
