Notes

Even though my race warmup pace was about the usual speed, I felt tired from long drive and 2 subpar sleep nights. I was tired and just didn't want to deal with race pain. So I forgot about time goals and just tried to run a decent pace, hoping to keep Sandy in sight and hopefully have enough to catch him at the end.

This is exactly what happened Sandy went by me at 400m and opened up a 10 second lead. Mile 1 was 6:34. Last year 6:12, so I was way off. Going up the hills, Sandy didn't pull away and he is normally a good hill runner, so I knew he was also struggling.

By mile 4 his lead was 8 seconds and I gradually closed and passed him just as we were entering the park. I had a strong kick which makes sense as I was running slower than I normally would up to that point.

I have yet to have a good race this season. The 3 months I missed from mid Dec-mid March has taken me longer to get in shape.

So even though as 1st in 60 plus, I was not happy with this race. Last year was 31:48, so 1:25 slower today.

I need to do a park run and just go hard as I can until I fall apart. This will help me get my 'race mentality' back.
