Notes
This race is supposed to be 4.2 miles. I had my Garmin on and it was 3.98, about 5-6 seconds short of 4 miles. So I actually paced out at 6:05 pace. The weather was ideal except for a strong 20 mph wind which slowed things down a bit on the second mile. On a calm day this would be a fast course because after one small hill in the first half mile, it's flat.
I had the Garmin because I wanted to find out my max heart rate which turned out to be 185. My plan was to start a gradual kick at 3.5 miles and at mile 4, put the hammer down. When I saw the turn to the finish, I realized that the race was short so I never was able to make the final drive at mile 4. Now I now how Eleni felt at the Quincy race... having a kick left and not being able to use it. However I am pleased that my last mile still was my fastest.
Mile splits of 6:06, 6:13, 6:07 and the final .98 in 5:46, (5:52 pace). 3rd place out of 200. 1st 50-59.
Great post race party with all types of food and music.
My gluts are a bit sore as I type this, but during the race my hamstrings didn't bother me all.
