Notes

This was my most difficult quality workout in a long time. I really had nothing. I started with 6.5 miles easy and that took me 3 miles to get under 9 minute pace. That's how flat and tired I was. The plan was to add 4 miles at tempo. The way I was feeling I wondered if I was going to be able to do this. However I started the tempo run mentally thinking that I wouldn't worry if I ran slower than the last tempo which was at 6:21 pace. My thought was if I was in the 6:30's I would be fine considering how tired I felt. The first half mile split was in 3:36 (7:18) pace. I was shocked at how slow I was. I then got stubborn and started to fight the run by pushing the next half mile closer to race pace. Even then it was still slow considering the effort (3:19). So after one mile at 6;55, I knew I was done. I was running harder than tempo and much slower than I should so there was no reason to continue. I compromised and went to the track and ran the straights hard and recovered on the turns. I did this for one mile. I never did get faster than 6;30 pace, so it's obvious that this wasn't my day and I'm still feeling Wednesday night's hill workout. Actually I've been tired since Sunday. I need to finish the week off strong with a good 21 miler on Sunday.
