I got my long run in! :)

I made the trip to Dorchester to run with Reno and Susan. It was very warm for October, (85 at the start) but low humidity which helped. We started easy 8:30 pace or so for about 40 minutes and then Reno and Susan did 2 miles at marathon pace, 2 miles tempo, and 2 more at marathon pace.

We ran the Milton 10K course which is tough with hills, perfect for the Athens Marathon. Coach took off... out of sight running 6:00 minute pace. I ran with Susan, doing 8:15, 7:57 (7:38, 7:32 - Susan's tempo) and then 8:02, 8:20. After this we ran easy back to their house and I finished off with another 50 minutes by myself.

I had problems with tightness in my right hamstring and right calf. From mile 10 to 15, at times it felt like I had no control of my right leg. Almost a numb feeling. When this happened I wondered if this was, (but not as painful) similar to what Eleni feels when she starts her runs. I also experienced pain and soreness in my arches and feet, but nothing I couldn't manage. This stuff happens when you're marathon training.

The last 2 miles of the run my hamstring released and I was able to pick up the pace and finish strong. I think this may have been the longest training run, (time-wise) that I've ever done. I'm not sure on the overall distance, but my estimate (21.7) I'm sure is close.

I found out that I like jelly beans when I run! :) Susan gave me a handful and I eat 3 of them 3 different times.

It reminded me of how in Utah on bike rides with friends of mine... we would pop down Skittles. Sugar is sugar! :)

So now I feel ready for Athens. I know it will be tough being out there for 4 hours or so. But running next too and along side the person closest to me in life will be an experience I eagerly look forward too. :)

I lost 4 pounds from this run... need to hydrate!
