Notes
I had a show in Bothwell which is about 5 miles from the Strathclyde Park Run, so it was the perfect location to get in a hard run. Th course is mostly flat, out and back along the river. I arrived late because I wasn't sure of the location and got in about a mile less than I would have liked for a warmup. However, I felt very good warming up and thought I had a shot at breaking 19:30, but no worse than a sub 20:00.
I went out fine, but soon felt and legs felt good, but soon the pace felt harder than it should have been. I was breathing too hard for the sped I was running. In fact, at 3 miles I was 19:26. In the 10K 2 weeks ago I was 19:18 after miles and that felt easier.
I did have a good kick, but just missed breaking 20:00 with a 20:02. I don;t know if it was a mental thing, or hopefully more likely to be due to the 29 miles I did in the 3 days leading up to today with a hard hill repeat session 3 days ago
So even though it was Park Run PB, the 20:32 I ran in Carlisle was actually faster because it measures 3.2 and is hilly. Strathclyde is flat and spot on 3.1.
13th place and 2nd in 60-64.
