Notes

I wasn't going to but I went out to Blue Marsh Lake for some trail running. I kind of didn't want to make the drive out there, but I did in the end.

I set out to do the 22.5 section from the top of Old Church Rd. to the bottom of the road, but as I was getting close I convinced myself to push on to do the extra 7.5 mile section, even though I was not pacing myself for 30 miles. I would have finished the 22.5 section in 3:55, but then took another 1:22 to do the 7.5 mile section.

I forgot how big the hills were on the last 4 mile leg of that section. I was already bonking, but those hills just killed me. I did a considerable amount of walking in that last 4 miles. In the last mile or 2 I was able to do more running, but I was really tired.

I did roll my left ankle once between miles 5 and 6 on a fairly level gravel section of the trail. It caught me by surprise. Luckily it doesn't feel severe. After that, no ankle rolls.

Ran with the vest and 2 20oz bottles of water/tailwind mix. Consumed 6 enduralytes and 2 gels. I didn't stop at the visitor center, either, to refill the bottles. At that point, I was still thinking of only doing the 22.5 mile section.

I haven't run this far since the Vermont 100 in July of 2018, but as far as training runs go, I haven't gone this far since the last 2 weeks in June of 2018, the lead up to the Vermont 100.
