Notes

Bix 2009

I thought I wasn't going to be able to run this race since I have been having shin splints for about the last 2 weeks. I took off quite a bit of time before I did this race, so I was worried about how I would do after about mile 4. I ate a bigger dinner last night and woke up and still felt a little full. I had been hydrating all yesterday also. Went for a 2 mile "test" run to see how my legs felt and to stretch out. I felt pretty good and running fast felt effortless. I accidentally got in a slower group for pace than I should have also, which is reflected in my first mile which was about 8 minutes, and is also partially due to the hill and me not being able to pass at first. I felt good even after Brady street hill and then the 2nd hill on the course. I was breathing well and felt like I was passing everyone. Upon the turnaround though is the fact that it's all uphill for about 2 miles, just enough to make you breath heavier. If anything I need to work on core training because I really felt my muscles in my midsection get tried after about mile 5 and was losing form. miles 4-6 are the hardest of the race because you just ran your ass off and then on top of that you are running them uphill. I always feel like quitting for some reason, but I push through because I know the last mile is one of the easiest of the race. The last mile went well with the big downhill, and I just missed breaking 50 minutes for the race. Next year for this race I feel like I should work on my core and maybe some hill running, just for form reasons. Also for this race it would be good to have some hard miles when you are tired to prepare for miles 4-6. I felt pretty good throughout this race, could haev been better and temp was abou 73 with low humidity, which is the best I can expect for this time of year.
