Notes

This was a very windy Turkey Trot. The 15-20 mph wind was out of the southeast and we either ran south or east for the first 1.8 miles. The first mile ended up right on pace but I think that is because I slowed so much with the wind. On a calm day with that effort, I may have gone out about 5:40-5:45. The second mile was tough because it started uphill and was all against the wind and all unprotected. I think that mile may have been around 6:40 if I hadn't turned to put the wind at my back for the last 0.2 miles. The third mile was all about racing and even though my time was only ok (still under 6:00/mi), I raced well. I passed two people around 1.3 miles into the race and when I turned the corner at 1.8 miles, only one of them stayed near me. After that, every time she started to get closer, I would make a move and drop her a little bit. I only knew this because I could hear her breathing and it allowed me to surge. We did this for the last 1.3 miles and she never caught me. I joked with her afterwards that I would have been 30 seconds slower if she hadn't pushed me and she said she was frustrated that I kept making moves to hold her off. I feel like I raced that really well and 7th was good as there were some pretty fast guys this year. I saw lots of college and high school singlets and a Run N' Fun guy who won easily. Pretty solid effort in the conditions. Maybe I could have run that second mile a little faster but I was out on my own.

It looks like 3.07 miles but there is only one spot on the course to run the tangent and I ran that very well. I don't think they mark the course down the middle of the road as it is an open course.
