Atlanta

Notes

This was a rough day. It all started on Friday when we got down to Atlanta. We had an AirBnB in some old lofts about 0.75 miles from the start/finish. I thought it was a good find until I tried to go to sleep. The walls were paper thin and I could hear everything, including people running in the halls. I tried to fall asleep around 9 pm on Friday and didn't fall asleep until after midnight and only had about 4 hours of sleep. Not a great start. The next night, I had about the same amount of sleep which was not enough. It also didn't help that I was out watching the trials and walked all over the place but that is why we went down there. I was exhausted on Sunday morning but I was going to run. Unfortunately, our building had some leaking and our loft was not the exact one that we booked. What I didn't expect is that this new loft had some leaking too. I put out my running stuff Saturday night and woke up with it all drenched on Sunday. I tried to dry it but didn't have enough time and had to wear other items. My drop shirt was still a bit damp which was a problem because I was cold waiting for the start.

I was ready in the corral but feeling tired and cold (from the shirt). I went for it on mile one which was mostly downhill and I knew right away I wasn't feeling right. I was exhausted and I could feel it from the beginning. I just never felt comfortable and I felt like I had a sick feeling in my stomach. It wasn't my day or my weekend. After that, I just ran what felt like a moderate pace but it was about all I had that day. I was exhausted. I don't use it as an excuse- it was just how I felt. I felt terrible. It didn't help that there were no flats on the course. If you weren't running downhill, you were running uphill.

Mile 10 was brutal as it was a long climb into downtown. At this point, I was shot. It wasn't my legs- they felt good. However, I was just exhausted and I felt it.

Oh well. Not the early season start I wanted. On to the next race.
