Sandy

Notes

--- A little sandier and hillier than I was ready for. Heart rate monitor was all messed up too, so couldn't get an accurate gauge on how bad my legs felt with how my heart was doing. Out in 12:29, back in 13:46. ---

Mile splits: 7:58, 8:58 (16:56) and 9:20 (26:16) last 1.01 miles (9:14 pace)

Adjusted splits: 8:13, 8:57 and 8:45

Making this quick since this it’s two days after the fact. Planned on a run of about 3.07 miles with some sort of add-on to hit around four miles tops. Forgot all the basics but was out later than I wanted. Planned on running down to the beach and on the hard-packed sand to a point and back, and then some around the place where I was staying at. Had an OK stretch and waited for my Garmin to sync up, which was quicker than usual, but could see it was off early until I settled it before I ran.

Knew that it would be a downhill start, then flat on the beach and then an uphill finish, but it was much worse than I thought. Went out quick with a 7:58 first mile (only 8:13 adjusted) including part of it on the sand, which slowed me down big time. Knew that I wasn’t going to get credit for the sand for the adjusted pace. I kept trying but couldn’t find anything nice and steady to run on. It just kept sucking in. Felt like the effort was there but just couldn’t move in the sand. Turned around at 1.51 miles right by a rock and some logs near the cliff at 12:29 (8:16 pace), then started the slog back home. The sand was rough but I wasn’t much faster once I hit the road and the uphill finish. Was at 16:56 at two miles following an 8:58 (8:57 adjusted), then had to deal with an uphill finish. Final mile was 9:20 (woof) (8:45 adjusted) so I ran the 3.01 miles in 26:16 (8:44 pace). Obviously the sand hurt but still thought I’d be faster. The uphill finish was more than I was ready for as well.
