--- First run since June 27 (29 days) after hurting my ribs in a Slip N' Slide accident (totally worth it). Probably could have started about two weeks ago but it was still uncomfortable sleeping up until recently, let alone doing anything active. Was finally able to swing a golf club on Wednesday night so figured I was ready. Dry heaved at 1.30 and 2.65 miles but somehow didn't stop. ---

Mile splits: 8:27, 8:52 (17:19), 8:52 (26:11) and 1:13 (27:24) last 0.15 miles (8:07 pace)

Adjusted splits: 8:21, 8:42, 8:53 and 8:45 pace last 0.14 miles

Knew this was going to be bad and it was. Would be my first run in 29 days (since June 29) when I hurt my right ribs doing a Pete Rose slide on a Slip ‘N Slide. The first one went OK, but the second one is where I suffered the injury. I probably could’ve started running again maybe two weeks ago (and not 29 days) but it was still uncomfortable sleeping until the last 10 days or so, let alone doing anything active. I was finally able to swing a golf club without any pain on Wednesday night, so 24 days after the incident, but did not attempt to run until today. Originally planned on running the 3.05-mile Nebo but the uphill scared me a little bit and I decided last minute to just run some around the neighborhood, starting with the 1.24-mile WTSL. Did a quick stretch, wet my heart rate monitor and my chest, and got my Garmin right for the start point.

First couple of steps I remember thinking this wasn’t so bad. However, 40-to-50 seconds in I was already breathing hard with no real concept of pace. Missed my 0.25-mile split but made it up the first hill OK, taking the left down the school street. Was at 4:13 at 0.50 miles so still felt like that was OK pace for not running in forever. Made the left on Parks still kind of feeling it but still moving OK. Was around 6:19 at 0.75 miles if I remember right, taking the left on University before hitting the first mile in 8:27. Would be happy with an 8:27 and kept that pace the rest of the way for the first loop, running the 1.24 miles in 10:28 (8:26 pace).

It didn’t take long for the first dry-heave to come as a violent one came at 1.30 miles as I started the second loop. Pretty much slowed down from there the rest of the run. Next two miles were each in 8:52 so a big drop off from the 8:27 first mile. Felt it on the back side along Junior High Drive. Kept plugging along, somehow not stopping. Second loop was in 11:02 (8:54 pace), some 34 seconds slower than the first one. Ouch.

Really wanted to stop but kept on going. Added on the 0.67-mile Olive loop in 5:54 (8:49 place), dry-heaving once again at 2.65 miles.

Was happy to finish, running the 3.15 miles total in 27:24 (8:43 pace). Took a long walk after two telephone poles up and back.

Not a great one and I expected that having not run the past 29 days. Hopefully can stay consistent. For now, that’s three days on, one off. At least for the next two weeks or so.
