Broke the cycle and actually did a road ride instead of defaulting to the paved trail. House - Camden - back hilly roads - Almaden - Los Alamitos to Hicks road turnaround - Almaden - McKean - Camden - Los Alamitos trail - Coleman - House. Mentally I wasn't too into it but I managed to keep turning the pedals for an ok ride. The weather was perfect.
