Notes

Well my legs weren't feeling at all great at the start but the Century is getting close so I needed a longer ride. Forced myself to try.

The route was three parts

Part 1 - small hills

Roughly House - climb Shannon - Los Gatos Almaden - Camden - McKean - Uvas - Watsonville - Oak Glen - climb Llagas

I struggled on all of the hills today. Saw many cyclists on Uvas and Watsonville in packs who were all going much faster than me. I liked the rolling nature of Uvas though and going by the reservoir. Pretty. I have never taken Uvas this far South.

Part 2 - CCT

was supposed to turn at Cochrane and enter CCT at the South end, but somehow missed the turn and ended up taking Monterey down to a different entrance of Coyote creek trail and following it to the Velodrome

Monterey was great because at this time there was a bit of a tailwind from the South. Because of missing my turn, my planned fuel stop came around mile 48 at the park near Metcalf which was pretty late. Had a cliff bar and refilled my water.

Part 3 - Velodrome - city streets home

After about mile 55, I was toast and nixed the idea of doing any more climbing (thought to do Hassler or Silver Creek Valley Yeah right!). The quality of the ride deteriorated with multiple stoplights and finally doing some short add on streets to at least get over 70 miles

Oh well. Wasn't pretty but I got it done. Hopefully I can fit in one more long ride next week. It would do a lot for confidence if I knew i could get over 80 miles without falling apart.

Wore the deMarchi shorts because my Pinarellos were in the laundry and surprisingly they were good with the padding.
