2nd place finish overall in my first 50k left me feeling great mentally, but it was tough physically. The poto is a demanding course to run. Ran with Behnam, who picked me up in the morning. We spent the first 26 or so miles together until I pulled away the last 5 to finish about 1 minute ahead. I'm very proud of the race I ran, and that I didn't pushed too hard too early. I'm not sure I could have completed another mile actually I may have locked up.
I ended up take gatorade, or gatorade + water at every station. 4 Crank Sports GUs (150 cals), and 1 succeed cap. I took 200m caffeine at 5:30am, then 200m caffeine at 7am. That left me a bit on edge the first 5 miles, my heart rate felt weird, but after that I settled in.
