That's 6:30 pace through 10 miles. I started to fall off the wagon at at mile 8 and could not hold on. Every subsequent mile is slower. If I played it a bit more even, I should have been around 1:25:xx, but I blew up going for 1:23:xx and just could not recover.
This is a frustrating result because I tapered for the race and everything. Here's what I felt.
Going into mile 8->9 my legs just should keep me going as fast as I had wanted. Aerobically I didn't feel too taxed, it was just my legs did not want to turn over and faster. The last 4 miles were definitely a death march that I don't want to relive anytime soon. Going out to fast and then just trying to hold on forever sucks.
I had Eric Morley to run with me and I stayed with him the first 7-8 miles, perhaps that's where my issues were, we pulled each other along well, but when I started to break down, I just couldn't keep it. He ended up doing 1:26:xx, not falling off nearly as much.
I was definitely dehydrated when I got home, so perhaps that had something to do with it. I tried to take some gatorade and water but it was really thick as shit gatorade, so I gagged on it. Took water the rest of the time, but just not enough I think. I'm not very good drinking from those cups.
So, all in all, a PR (since I've never run 1/2 before), but overall a disappointment. I think I am in better shape than the results tell though, but perhaps not by much for a 1/2 distance.
