Notes
Starting my break today(Tuesday). We decided as a whole not to do the time trial due to lousy weather. There's really no point to do a time trial unless you have the conditions to go for a fast time. I'll be taking about 10 days off and then build back up towards 80s. As for this season, I am reasonably happy with how it went. The 26:16 early on at Sundodger makes me wonder how low I could have gone on a fast course late in the season when I was peaking. The home meet 10K could have gone better, but it all comes down to mental strength in a race like that. I am happy that I got a year of redshirt experience under my belt though. I can be totally ready for next year when I will be in the top group.
I'm talking with the coaches today to decide what approach to take for training between the 15/5K group or the 5K/10K group. My preference would be 15/5K just because I feel like I still have a lot of room to grow in the 15. Maybe I'll try to jump over shit again this year. Who knows.
We had the team banquet last night and I was really inspired by what the seniors had to say. One stupid thing Andrew said really struck a chord with me. "There is no one moment when a cucumber becomes a pickle." He went on to explain how similarly, there is no one day or workout that makes a distance runner into a champion, but the culmination of days, weeks, months, and years of consistency. He also challenged us young guys to dedicate ourselves 100% to the sport and see what happens. This is definitely what I will be doing for the next few years. I'm not afraid to go for 100 mile weeks, I'm not afraid to say that my goals are to score at conference this year and make the top 7 for a top 10 team in the nation next fall. I didn’t come all the way here to be mediocre. Sorry for the long post.
