Notes
For any of you data geeks out there:
The number of BQ's produced at Boston since 2010, in decending order:
12,767 in 2015 (<---This is the World Record for # of BQ's, any city, any race, any course, any year, any conditions)
11,053 in 2014 (36,000 entrants)
10,374 2011 (the infamous "tailwind" year)
9,897 2010
9,795 2013 (bombing year, preventing a few would-be BQ's from finishing)
9,213 2018 (this year, rain, sleet, cold, winds)
8,947 2016 (warm-to-hot)
8,010 2017 (last year. Hot)
2,387 2012 (near record heat, JITFO is born)
The takeaway here is, heat is worse than cold/wind/rain for *performance*, even if cold/wind/rain scores higher on the misery index. Note the 3 worst years were the 3 warmest. Note the World Record for BQ's was set in 2015, even beating the tailwind year.
