Wind makes a different sound blowing through leaveless trees than fully dressed trees...just as the different sound produced through scrub pines and leaved trees. Beech trees and oaks hold onto leaves past peak and that stiffened crispness makes it's own rattling sound.
An approaching gust can now be heard much sooner when leaves have dropped.
