Great blue heron, black butterflies, and a lady slipper.
Scared some guy walking pretty good as I ran up from behind. I got the sense I was dangerously close to getting caned with his walking stick right in that moment of surprise. Grateful he did not. Perhaps I could be louder on approach...but what if he was deaf? Guess I could make really wide passes out of striking reach. At any rate...there is risk in all things and I am responsible for all that I face.
A good exercise would be instead of heading out the door and expecting a wonderful time and taking it for granted...to head out the door and expect a tragic outcome. This shifts that responsibility ownership to me if I know that if I head out the door I will face trouble. All just by realizing one simple thing that I made the choice to step out the door...I am making the choice to go run right now and be struck by a car...or chased by a dog...or twist an ankle. Not because the driver was distracted...not because the dogs owner let him off the chain...and not because falling leaves covered some plastic bottle that fell out of an atv cooler. My choice put me there...and now I must pay...graciously...without emotional involvement.
