Running up to the field at sanford high where the rock climbing wall is...I came upon and startled a doe and her young spotted twin fawns. The mother and one fawn took off in one direction towards the climbing wall while the other fawn darted off in the other direction towards the woods. As I ran across the field the doe stopped and watched. I then saw that the lone fawn had stopped as well...but the meeting of our eyes caused it to flee again... into the trees.
I guess this mother doe has been conditioned to not react so much to the civilized world. The motion of my running startled her...but the people walking in the parking lot by the buildings did not keep her from being out into the open with her young. I find it all very fascinating...this family of deer living in the middle of the "city". What choice does life have?
