Wonderful "catered long run" with Kathleen, from the Lakes Inn in Detroit Lakes, where we ran 2.5 miles ahead of time, really slow, followed by the Dick Beardsley 25k. Caught a glimpse of Dick at the start, but we never got to chat with him. The superslow warm up was followed by a good effort in the gently hilly 25k around the lake, where we alternated running quicker miles, mostly in the 8:40-8:50 range, with easier miles, doing about 7 of these "marathon mile repeats". Nice weather, gentle winds, cloudy, upper 50s to lower 60s.
Kathleen and I finished the 25k in 2:22:53, both of us winning our ten-year, 60-69 age group, for an average pace of 9:12/mile. Great confidence builder for Marathon du P'tit Train du Nord in 3 weeks and 1 day.
37th of 96 overall, 1 of 2 in age group, 21st of 33 male in the race. I felt good today too, hamstring getting a bit sore by 10 miles but never getting worse. Happy.
