Notes

51F 62%H 43DP (Hiram) running the Silver Comet Marathon. I was number 1337. Had targeted 4:20, hoping for a 4:17:xx, but came in at 4:22:26 official time. (By the way, this was good enough to qualify for Boston, which was a BQ - 2:28 this year. My time was BQ - 2:34.)

This week I ate mostly only pasta, did an Aussie Carbo Load on Thursday because of the Saturday race and used CarboGain as the drink. I also ate 6 pop tarts. Race morning (getting up at 0305) I had a cup of oatmeal, 2 pop tarts, and my usual cup of coffee.

Legs never ran out of oomph, but I couldn't pick it up in the last miles. I would start to cramp each time I tried. Perhaps I should experiment with taking pickle juice with me. A guy who ran the full had one of those plastic lemon squeeze thingies that he had filled up with pickle juice.

The weather was absolutely perfect. Couldn't have asked for anything better. The Silver Comet is a bit hillier out beyond where I usually do my 20 mile turnaround. There is also a bridge that is a bit steep.

Got a silly little insulated (ceramic?) bottle as the prize. I'm sure they just don't have enough full marathoners (161 today) to be able to afford anything nicer. I do like the wooden completion medal though. It is different.

Don't have the actual split first half vs. second half, but for the first thirteen and second thirteen:

First thirteen: 9:57.1

Second thirteen: 9:58.8

So, only a 1.7 second difference.
