Leg #3 and my last leg of the relay (thank goodness!). It was supposed to be a costume leg but my costume was a sweater so I was like... no. I was feeling pretty crappy after the second leg with lots of GI issues so I was just going to do the best I could. My goal was to try to average sub 8 min miles since it was so short. When I started I got a second goal: pass the girl like ~.5 ahead in lululemon (for some reason my teammate was feeling competitive with their team so I decided to use it as a motivator). The first mile was uphill in 7:41. The second mile was all down in about 7:19. Then the 2 mile climb started. Sometimes it flattened out just a tad to tease you into thinking it was over. The 3rd mile was 9 mins. Ouch. I got passed by a beer keg! I realized I was actually closing in on lululemon! (it is so strange how your world can narrow to the thought of just getting past one person during races). I knew there was only a mile left so I started to push again because, why not? As we were running up to a corner near the base lodge, we ran by lululemon's coach who was like "only about a quarter mile left!" and I was like "OMG ALMOST DONE TURBO MODE GO" and I surged passed lululemon (who was actually super nice cheered "wooo go! awesome pace!!" and I was like "zanks" as a slobbered all over myself in complete exhaustion). We turned the corner to the flat and I knew she was right behind me so I was trying to sprint as fast as I could through the gravel parking lot, which was not easy. I think I just barely made it in in front of her. I made both my goals though which was great and I averaged just under 7 min pace for the whole thing including all of that climbing.
