Notes

Great race today! We got off and immediately all 5 of us went to the front. I was in the very back of our pack but I told myself to just be patient and wait. We went through the mile in 4:51 or so and by this point it was clear that this was just a strategic race for points. I was feeling really strong and hung right with Kerley and Vasquez, and truth be told this was just one of those days where the pace felt really smooth. Thought about taking the lead after the 2 mile but figured I'd better play it safe. Sure enough, Keith was leeching off of us (mostly Kerley though considering he did all the lead work) and they got a pretty loud Augie chant going. I knew he could kick so I stayed behind Kerley and Vasquez till 450m to go or so.Throughout the race I constantly remembered the embarrassing feeling of Cross Country Conference and told myself to stop being a pussy and just go for it. With a little over 2 to go I took the lead and was able to drain the kick out of Keith the last 400 meters and Kerley re-passed him! Closed in 59-60 and that was the most effortless finish I think I've ever had during my career at NCC. What made it feel so good though was all the NCC guys yelling from the sides! Every lap I heard Johnny and a bunch of other guys screaming "How bad do you want it" and "Medium Modaff" and that really got me going! One of the coolest feelings in the world.

Finally, It took 3 years but I had the breakout race I've been waiting for! I know what this feeling feels like and I'm never gonna forget it! 1-2-4-5-6 in the 5k; 1-2-3-5 in the Mile; 2-4-5-7-8 in the 3k; and DMR champions! Time to take this momentum to outdoors and qualify for Nats! It's gonna be hard, but I'm done being a little bitch. I'm not gonna stand by and watch kids who don't work as hard as me accomplish my dreams. Back to the grind
