Another Thanksgiving, another go at the Turkey Trot title. Race went out a bit slow, the first mile is always slower just because of wind and such so when I saw 5:02 I wasn't super concerned or anything. At this point the race was already just a pack of 4: Omar, Me, Dom, and Chapman's GA from Wartburg who was decked out in Calving gear. The wind picked up a little but it was still manageable and we went through the 2 mile in 10:07 which is one of the slowest times I've gone through in recent years. Almost immediately after that, Dom and the Calvin guy put a few seconds on Omar and I as the pace began to progressively increase. I felt controlled and comfortable, yet was still struggling a bit breathing wise since I haven't been doing serious workouts or anything sub 5:20 pace haha. My body kinda acted on it's own though and I started a kick from 700-600 meters out which ended up being a smart move. Omar and I worked together and we ended up catching the Calvin guy and closed the gap on Dom a bit. Another 2nd place to chalk up haha one of these days I'll win this damn race. Pretty happy with it though even though it's nowhere near my fastest time here. Just knowing I can grind it out with Omar (even though he had a bad cold) a month after the marathon is a sign that I'm being smart with progressively increasing my training. Had some good turnover too so while there is plenty to work on, I'm re-adjusting well all things considered.
