Notes

Shamrock Shuffle 2k18; weather conditions were 28 degrees and very windy (18-20 mph) w/gusts much windier. Even just walking around I knew it wasn't going to be a day to chase times, so I just focused on having a good race and competing with whatever group I ended up with. Wasn't able to get any strides in because of having to use the bathroom but still got out at a good pace. Ended up doing a very good job at finding a group early on and then working with them to continue passing other groups. Thompsen and I were together for the first 2 miles along with Akita and a few others and I tried my best to draft behind people when the gusts got bad but sometimes it didn't even matter lol. Got out slightly faster than last year despite feeling way faster (5:10-5:12) so just focused on working with our group. I passed more people than getting passed and did a good job moving up and hanging on. Felt pretty in-control but started to labor a bit near the last 1k, as it tends to be with any race. Passed 4-5 people on the bridge/in the final straightaway so I was happy I could attack the wind and still make up ground. The time certainly isn't anything to write home about but I'm just proud of the way I ran the race. Another small step in the right direction and happy with how controlled this felt!
