Notes

Burbank Frosty 5k, weather was super cold (8 degrees) with roughly 15 mph winds, definitely the coldest race I've ever run, might be a tie with the Champaign mile a few years ago at Centennial but boy was it cold. Good and bad takeaways about the race; I knew that there was no way a fast time was going to be run today so I just wanted to bust the rust since I haven't done something quick really since Grindfest. Arturs Bareikis showed up so I knew I'd have someone to run with. Honestly, he is a good guy and means well but holy shit is he the most god damn annoying person to race against. I led for the first 1.5 miles of the race, and while it was certainly tough breathing wise to get air, Arturs sounded like he was dying. I was pretty cool with leading anyway as we went through in 5:02 and I told him to just hang with me. Dropped him a little near 1.5 and then he makes a ridiculous ballistic move and puts like 8 seconds on me in 100 meters. That pissed me off pretty good and I reeled him in over the next 400 meters and then dropped him slightly again. He did this to me two more times and on the third time I didn't go with. I felt like I had zero turnover and that's definitely on me for being rusty, but I wasn't about to go ham at a 100 person low key 5k with temps near 0. He crossed the finish line and started panting and then I came a few seconds after him and then just instantly jogged back to go cheer on Kaytlin, my dad and my uncle. Wasn't really in the mood for that bullshit but it is what it is. Happy with the effort and I'm glad that, despite the time being laughable, I felt pretty good. Did this in the GT-2000's and actually didn't mind the feel, definitely not a racing flat but I think this would serve as a good workout shoe as opposed to spikes. With all the traveling and school stuff coming in, it was nice to start the weekend like this, had a great time! Arturs if you're reading this, you're a great guy but leave that chicken shit bull shit for a day where it actually matters.
