10K at Wheaton tonight. Goal was to try and stay completely smooth through 4 miles and then start moving the last 2 miles. Ended out getting good position and hanging off the back of the pack. I wasn't struggling, but I wasn't necessarily just floating either. Ended up coming through the 2 mile in 9:44 and then another surge was made so I ended up getting gapped. Worked with McMahon for a bit but he was feeling much better than I and then went to go and help Ben who was about 50 meters in front of us. Ended up pretty much running solo at this point. Tried to keep pressing and sometimes I would get closer to Ben and then other times he would move away. Sucked cause I couldn't really settle back into a pace but it's my own fault for getting dropped. Vazquez passed me at mile 4 and I couldn't go with him which sucked, but I did respond the next time I got caught. A Wash U guy got next to me with 500 to go and once that happened I had no trouble picking up the pace and running with him. Had a pretty solid kick and ended up holding him off and catching Ben with 200 to go (sorry man, I really wish I had been able to help you out, but even with your terrible ab you were still running quick). Ran 31:27, which technically is a 16 second PR, although I am in way better shape than this. I'm not really that disappointed though, because I always have a rough time with the 1st meet of the season. Gonna use this as positive momentum and kill Chicagolands next weekend.
