Notes

Cambridge half marathon, in the spring sunshine. Perfect weather - mild and still. Ran conservatively. 43rd.

Started a bit faster than planned, first 2 miles probably sub-6m/m, then backed off and let people come past me. Drifted through 6:10-6:20 miles until about 6 miles, slight concern about stitch but didn't materialise; up Kings Parade for second time (S + boys saw me three times in city - along with rest of the world) pushed it on a bit. Honestly felt that I was racing only for about 2 miles; the rest just felt like a fast and fairly hard training run. Chip time one second faster than Peterborough in October!

Splits approx 5 miles in just under 31 mins, 10 miles in about 61:45.

10 from school doing it, Kyle (off to NZ in summer) 1:25, Dan 1:27, Chris Ingram disappted w 1:30:13. Jo P ran 1:55 and pleased. Winner 1:09 (you saw the leaders - and followers - on the out and back course by Riverside). Lots of C&C vests ahead of me.

Time to do some real training and push it down to 1:20 and below. It is just about getting fit enough to run hard for that distance - so that in the first half you can push it on, not running within yourself, but running at a pace that is almost - but not quite - impossible; and so that in the second half you can run fast on tired legs.
