Notes

Great East Run. 90th position. Quite windy, but apart from that the weather was very good for running (grey) and course is windy (and wind-y) but ultra-flat. Ron Hill was on the start line! (plus Sally Gunnell - and Liz Yelling won the women's race).

First five miles all fine at about 6 minute pace: 30:00 to 5 miles and felt fairly easy. Just as I was starting to dream of greatness it got a bit more difficult; halfway in 39-something? Twisted ankle on a speed bump but fortunately ok. 10 miles in 61:50ish, I think. Annoyingly stitch started at about the 10 or 11 mile mark but just niggling; I was starting to run more strongly but as I pushed it on by 12 miles stitch was bad and lost >30seconds to that.

In all: 1:21 was a good outcome off fairly limited training. Would have been 1:20 without the stitch. Not bad. John Oakes 1:18, Giacomo 1:22, Kye Liddle 1:15.

Makes (a) 10 miles in the hour seem more difficult than I remembered; (b) but achievable, like a 1:19 HM.
