Bulle Rock Turkey Trot 5K

Since I wasn't traveling anywhere for the Thanksgiving Holiday, I decided to run the Turkey Trot 5k held on my home turf (Bulle Rock community). I knew this was going to be a low key race as there were only about 200-300 runners the last few years and the winning time around mid-17s, which is a decent time considering the course isn't all that easy.

The course is half mile on Chapel Rd, which has about a 1/4 mile hill, and then turns left onto Blenheim Rd for about 1.2 miles of gradual downhill. We then turnaround and run uphill for about .3 miles before running through the woods onto the other side of Bulle Rock. The last half mile is a climb to the finish.

About 1/4 mile into the race I was already all alone. I knew this was going to be a solo effort. I ran the first couple miles hard (came through 2 miles in 10:20) and then shut it down and cruised the last mile. The last mile actually felt a bit tough because of the uphill, but it still wasn't a very hard effort. About 50 meters from the finish, I saw my daughter running towards me, so I stopped and picked her up and we ran to the finish together. Finished in 16:40, which I thought is a really good time on this course.
